Jeremy thinks I had the Potchefstroom Lurgy, but much of my second day at North West University: Potchefstroom campus was spent with a splitting headache and self-pity. Luckily, we finished up the KnowledgeTree training early, due to a bright class. Continuing on the theme of strange conversations, I had two really long and deep conversations with the driver of the shuttle between Johannesburg International and Potchefstroom. He also knew about Open Source, which made it easier to explain what I do. But, we covered various philosophical, political, and religious topics too, surprised at how similarly/compatibly we thought on such things. Happy to be back, hope to put up some pictures from my trip soon (any non-sucky photo management software out there?!).
I found Gallery (gallery.sf.net) fairly non-sucky. If you can ignore the fact that it's written in PHP...
I have used gallery for a while on radbrad.rucus.net/gallery and have found it cool, it has nice management, but it uses shoddy tables for layouts. I am going to mount up and port it to use divs and spans for more flexible visual layouts (this is where I feel it sorely lacks) It took quite a bit of hacking to get it to fit within my page (i.e. custom header files etc.) and it is not perfect at the moment... either way, it is the least sucky, and uses db files, so it is quite portable...
