Put simply, I suspect Google Calendar is going to bring some inertia to the whole groupware/calendaring thing. Not because it's bad-ass, but because it's insanely visible. And it got search right (this is Google, after all).

Searching for "Cape Town" over the past few days has shown up two calendars of events that I'm interested in - the CLAWS calendar (for roleplaying-related stuff) and Kirstenbosch's Winter concert schedule. Less than a minute to find stuff I'm interested in, and have a permanent and updated list of events happening. (Anyone for a "Cultural Cape Town" calendar?)

I've also set up an "Open Source Events in South Africa" calendar. I had always wanted to do that. And now it took a few seconds...

I'll probably move it off Google or export from Google to a non-Google (I wonder what calendar software does with an HTTP redirect?), so that I have control over the namespace.

Brad (ever insanely bright) was already using a calendar to do some project management, and this could be rather potent in combination with Google Calendar (or a similar system).

Output project plans as per-person and per-project calendars. This way, I (as a "resource") can subscribe to my portion of the project. I can do this with all my projects. This way I have power to discover conflicts and additional information that wouldn't be available to my project manager or me when drawing up the plan. I can't help but see when there's a half-day of staff training or a performance review and so forth.

So, when is Google selling pizza boxes with Google Mail and Google Calendar for corporate/project use? Will Hula be the next best hope?

If you're using Google Desktop, check out the Calendar widget. It doth rocketh. Combined with the GMail, ToDo list & built in Search, all I have to do is wait for HowTo.com to put up a "How to conquer the world, a Primer by The Brain" article and a new age shall dawn. Muahahahaha!!

hi neil, I'm sure you've seen the new Google Calendar features, including Personalized Hompeage integration and calendar publishing any thoughts on their publishing/sharing methodology? also, regarding CLAWs, check out the Dragonfire website (roleplaying convention this August) at http://dragonfire.za.net/ unless of course you've seen both pages already :)
