Where do I come from?

I was born in Port Elizabeth in 1978, where I went to Grey High School. I stayed there until I went to Rhodes University in Grahamstown, where I studied Computer Science and Information Systems. I then moved to Cape Town to go work and live.

What do I do?

Boring computer stuff

I spend most of my time in front of UNIX-like operating systems (primarily FreeBSD and Ubuntu). Most of that time is spent writing computer programs, primarily in Python.

Interesting non-computer stuff

I read quite a bit, watch a lot of movies and series, walk my dogs Dante and Sidney, and I also "mountain" climb (in a gym) twice a week.

What I like

Music

My favourite bands/artists include The Fields of the Nephilim, Eve 6, Crazy Town, Bush, Live, Skunk Anansie, Dave Matthews Band, Def Leppard, Sting, Eric Clapton, Metallica, No Doubt, Tchaikovsky, and many more I can't remember offhand.

Authors and books

Mainly fantasy - David Eddings, Raymond E. Feist, and Terry Goodkind feature highly, just below J. R. R. Tolkien. Also, Katherine Kerr, Marion Zimmer Bradley. Iain M. Banks.

Television and Movies

My favourite series are generally fantasy or sci-fi like Earth: Final Conflict, Babylon 5, Angel, Buffy, Firefly, and Charmed. I also rather enjoy West Wing and Prison Break. My favourite movies are A New Hope, The Usual Suspects, Clerks, Dark City, and such.

Games

I'm a Nintendo GameCube and Wii convert. My favourite game so far is Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Despite my best efforts, I quite like my XBox 360 as well.
