The next GeekDinner, creatively known as GeekDinner May 2007, will be held on Mon, 28 May from 18:30 to 21:00. at The Wild Fig.

The GeekDinners are intended to have a number of short talks for a number of reasons.  Firstly, if you aren't interested in the subject, you aren't subjected to a long discussion of it.  Secondly, it allows for people to learn a little about a lot of things, and to know which people to chat to during the meeting and beyond for a deeper discussion.  Finally, it allows anyone to talk - there's no set of speakers for a particular dinner, and preparing a three minute broad-and-shallow talk is a lot less of a barrier than something longer.  Oh, and we don't want the talks to dominate the networking!

So far, six speakers have submitted potential talks.  Antoine van Gelder is talking about something to do with the One Laptop Per Child project.  Bryn Divey is going to give a talk about some Python topic - possibly an argument on where it is better to use it than other languages.  I'm going to talk about one of my projects - it depends on what's ready or most interesting at the time.  Tania will speak about project management, Nick Coyne on Ruby on Rails, and Ian Gilfillan on mind games and computers.

Thanks to Jonathan for kickstarting the venue selection and to Jonathan and Joe for meeting with the venue contact people and haggling and discussing until a date was set.
