One of the friends I most enjoyed meeting at Africa Source II was Egyptian open source developer, blogger, and activist Alaa Abd El-Fatah. He's being detained for 15 days for being involved in a peaceful demonstration (in support of others being detained without trial). He spoke of the possibility of short-term detention, and I hope he was right about his safe return and that I'll see he and his wife again soon.

There's plenty of coverage of this: his wife Manal, Ethan Zuckerman and Global Voices, and even mainstream media.
