I don't think I've mentioned it here, but I became a (occasionally-pisco-) vegetarian about seven weeks back. Which has meant learning quite how poorly some places cater for vegetarians. Not going to shame anyone now, but I thought I'd mention my two favourite lunch places at the moment in Cape Town - Mimi (good veg options) in Lower Long Street (near Obs Cafe) Observatory (when I'm at Jam, and Zucchini (only delicious veg options) in Loop Street, CBD, when I'm in the area (usually at the Barn. Any further suggestions welcomed.
LOTS! in the CBD: CRUSH (on st. george's mall between long and shortmarket) soups rule! or try their grilled veggie salad ... or mexican wrap ... they are also opening a branch in the foreshore - closer to the barn. try lola's on long street - they have a good veggie curry (every day) - and are connected with either zuchini on loop or the place just down the road from them. royal vegetable burgers (also on long, across from marvel) are great and it's a NICE place to hang out and let the weekend drift by. enjoy! P
I recently had lunch at Yum, in Gardens. A friend of a friend has just opened a new veggie place next door (I forget the name). Directions: Up Buitenkant Street past the Gardens Centre, past the Caltex - the road winds up a bit until you see a Friendly Seven Eleven sign behind a park - the restaurant is in the centre.
