Summary
Started the garage part of the garage overhaul in earnest, migrating a bunch of sheet goods and lumber to maximize available wall and floor surfaces, putting up hardware as needed to facilitate. Started building mobile work bases for tools so they’re able to all be usable within a few seconds, rather than a bit of a drag to set up.

Highlights
Once I was forced away, I found myself possessed with a sudden clarity: why on earth had I 5 minutes ago become so invested in this particular task? Given the forced break, my brain “reset” and I could step away from it, and go back to thinking about the original problem and what my goals and conclusions were …
But once a year, well then maybe it’s worth taking a day off from everything and contemplating where you’re going in life: are you happy with your decisions? In a way you’re paying 1% of your time and energy as a sort of insurance against wandering too far in a bad direction. Not a bad trade.
– “On Stepping Back” by Russell Power
On the one hand, this ability to step back and look at things with distance is an ability I often bring to situations which has been hugely valuable at work. On the other hand, not applying this to my own life for years led to some bad outcomes.
So, yeah, try to do this.

I’m not sure “collectivist” is the right terminology, but the comparisons between the Gothic series (in particular Gothic 2) and the Elder Scrolls are good (and I wish we had more Gothic-like games).
